![]() She and Richie seemed to be fairly happy, even if Richie was concealing his anxiety. I have to ask, is it entirely because we know where that relationship goes? Because she seemed fine to me, she was managing to put up with all that chaos while soaking in pregnancy hormones. One of the least likable people I've ever seen portrayed on scream imo. My family's not that bad but we definitely have my mother taking over on the food prep despite my sister and my niece (well, less my sister this year due to her having surgery just before christmas) being there to help, then talking about how she can't do it all on her own anymore, then I have to split my christmas day between the rest of my family and then taking a plate over to my dad in his retirement community because he's not talking to my sister's side of the family because everyone are stubborn, and he spends that whole time telling me he might drop dead at any time because he's not taking his diabetes medication and barely taking his heart meds, or getting anyone to look at his one-remaining foot despite having lost feeling in it, then being guilted after that because I didn't spend all of christmas afternoon with my sister's kids who will guilt me because they miss me but also will go out of their way to make my time in that house as miserable as possible.īut hey, no one's threatened suicide at christmas for a good few years, so we've got that going for us, which is nice. If you live in Chicagoland, you've seen the inside of this house a million times. There's too much to eat, wayyy too much to drink, and fighting about the stupidest shit.Įven the decor was spot on with tacky mid 60s 70s 80s Chicago suburbs house. ![]() These families love each other but they want to kill each other at the same time. The normal people brought in as guests just trying to take it all in.thinking "wtf did i just get myself into". You can literally feel a sense of ungrateful, seething, hatred and yet trying to create the perfect holly jolly christmas for everyone. I think they really hit it on the nose with some of the large, loud, no-filter European American Chicago family dynamics that we see in some households around the south side and the suburbs. SO many things happening at once that you are just spinning. The whole episode needs to be recognized for the sheer anxiety, rage, confusion, and utter chaos that ensues. A worn out, terrifying alcoholic, chain smoking, manipulative mother that's utterly exhausting on the point of collapse. Jamie Lee Curtis needs a nomination for this episode alone. It's also the only thing that helps the children get away from the horrors that is the Berzattos. It's the ONLY thing that's keeping this family together. For heaven sakes a car is driven through their home but heaven forbid you touch the food. Notice how both Mike and the mom only ruin the silverware off the table. But not too much where its beyond repair. And when it is like with Natalie (who is the ultimate middle child) she takes the meal that she slaved and punished herself over and ruins it. None of their empathic behavior is taken into consideration. And yet pushing them all away when they try to show her least bit of help or respect. Driving herself insane to create the perfect dinner for a disfunctional family. The back and forth of her bipolar like personality. Both of these aspects are the fore front of this episode. She knows how to play the suburbian mother but also has a background in psychological horror. ![]() Just finished watching this episode and it is the most horrifying, beautiful piece of art of my eyes have ever laid witness. ![]()
